Video: The real problem of the deficit is the spending

Dan Mitchell of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity reminds us that we can’t reform alcoholics by giving them more to drink — and you can’t reform politicians by giving them more money to spend.

The reality is that while huge deficits and skyrocketing debt are rightly causing worry, these are merely symptoms of the real problem of excessive government spending. "Fiscal responsibility is lacking in Washington. Deficits and debt are the symptoms, but the underlying disease is government spending."


As the late Milton Friedman once said, "The true burden of government is the spending level."
