Jon consults with economist Nouriel Roubini to see if he agrees with Nancy Pelosi's statements about unemployment benefits. Stewart pokes fun at Obama claiming that we should be happy that unemployment is "only" in the 9% range.
Video: Leno Demonstrates Effectiveness of American Education on History
If people do not understand America's history, how can we expect them to make political decisions which respect the values that this nation was founded upon?
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana
The objective of the American Founding was to break free of the old despotism, characterized by the arbitrary will of the stronger, based on force and fraud, masked by the false claims of long inheritance or divine right.
Virtually every government at the time was based on a claim to rule without popular consent. The Founders’ object was to establish the rule of law, decentralize political authority, and limit government to secure the unalienable rights with which man was endowed by “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God.” They held that man, though fallible and full of passions, is capable of governing himself and that none was so much better than another as to rule him without his consent.
56 men signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. By doing so, these men freely and willingly committed high treason. These men gave their estates, their families, their sanity, and ultimately their lives.
They did so because they knew they were fighting towards a cause greater than themselves. Throughout all the malicious and vindictive acts that were done to them, they remained steadfast in their beliefs, and devoted to their cause.
We must never forget the common men who believed in freedom so deeply that they put their lives in danger and took part in the birth of a new nation. This nation was founded on liberty, and these men were willing to sacrifice everything for that. 234 years later, should we be willing to give anything less?
Field Poll: Race for California Governor Tied
A new Field Poll shows the race for governor is tied, four months before Election Day.
The survey, conducted from June 22 to July 5, shows Brown with a 43% to 44% lead, well within the poll's margin of error.
In a statement released with the poll, Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said, "About 4 in 10 likely voters now hold positive impressions of each candidate, while about 4 in 10 others hold negative views. The current findings represent a further sag in voter attitudes toward Brown, who possessed a two-to-one favorable image with voters last year."
The survey also shows deeply divided opinions about Whitman. 42% of those surveyed said they had an unfavorable opinion of the former EBay chief executive, and 40% viewed her positively.
Apparently Whitman's ads seem to be having an impact on how voters think of Brown. And if they aren't, perhaps it's time to ponder the following question:
What's Brown Done for You Lately?

CHANGE!: NASA Mission Shifts from Space Exploration to Muslim Diplomacy (Video)
Apparently the United States space program now exists to assuage the hurt feelings of nations and cultures that have lagged behind the United States in scientific development. That, per the commander-in-chief’s orders, which states that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) mission will now shift from space exploration to Muslim diplomacy.
Earlier this month President Obama announced that he would slash NASA’s $100 billion plan to return astronauts to the moon, however the detail left out was where those resources would be directed.
The president only said the moon program (Constellation) is behind schedule, over budget and overall less important than other space investments. NASA’s attempts to pursue its moon goals were inadequate and took funding away from other important programs, including robotic space exploration, science and earth observations, Obama claimed.
NASA’s new Muslim outreach mission was conveniently omitted though the head of the agency finally revealed it this week. NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden disclosed that Obama wants him to “find ways to reach out to dominantly Muslim countries” as part of the administration’s efforts to make the space agency a tool of international diplomacy.
Following is Charles Krauthammer's response to Obama’s new NASA strategy:

Freedom is Everyone's Job (Video)
As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. As we enter our Independence Day weekend, we felt the video of Red's presentation was one everyone should see.
As we celebrate the 234th Birthday of our United States of America, it is fitting to reflect on the heroic acts of our Founding Fathers. 56 men signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. By doing so, these men freely and willingly committed high treason. It is easy to picture an antique document, concluded with 56 signatures; and those names are only ink on a faded parchment. But the men who dipped quill into ink made a larger impact than simply signing their names. They chose to do what was noble, regardless of the consequences.
Happy Fourth of July. May you celebrate and pay tribute to the common men who believed in freedom so deeply that they put their lives in danger and took part in the birth of a new nation. This nation was founded on liberty, and these men were willing to sacrifice everything for that. We should lead our lives with pride and gratitude for the courageous 56, who demonstrated how precious our liberty truly is.
Citizenship and the Pursuit of Happiness (Video)
Whether it’s Arizona’s new immigration enforcement law or President Obama’s decision to send additional national guard troops to the US/Mexico border, immigration remains one of the most contentious issues in contemporary politics - one in which there is no lack of opinions.
As we celebrate the 234th Birthday of our United States of America we thought the following video by Nick Gillespie and the crew from Reason.TV was a fitting post. Reason.tv caught up with immigrants to learn why they moved to a country that defines itself as a multicultural melting pot...

Schwarzenegger Aide: AB 32 Will Have No Effect on Global Warming
AB 32 the beloved golden child of democrats, environmentalists and Governor Schwarzenegger is little more than a jobs killer. And despite the benefits touted by supporters, its imposition would have no effect on global warming, as top Arnold aide David Crane admits in the following video:
Whether or not one believes in "global warming"or whether or not one agrees with the goals of AB 32, one things is crystal clear: As California struggles amidst the worst economy since the Great Depression, as lawmakers grapple with a $20 billion deficit, now is not the time to move ahead with implementation of California's Global Warming Law.
The costs associated with implementing the law will negatively effect families, the economy, consumers, and small businesses alike. Costs that California cannot afford, especially when one considers the law will have zero impact on mitigating it's intended target.
