Oops! Report Shows Biodegradeable Products Cause Global Warming

Research from North Carolina State University shows that so-called biodegradable products are likely doing more harm than good in landfills, because they are releasing a powerful greenhouse gas as they break down.

"Biodegradable materials, such as disposable cups and utensils, are broken down in landfills by microorganisms that then produce methane," says Dr. Morton Barlaz, co-author of a paper describing the research and professor and head of NC State's Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering.

Poll: Obama's Ratings on Economy Hit New Low

Americans' disapproval of how President Barack Obama is handling the economy and its growing budget deficit has reached new highs amid broad frustration over the slow pace of economic recovery, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

By 2 to 1, Americans say the country is pretty seriously on the wrong track, and nine in 10 continue to rate the economy in negative terms. Nearly six in 10 say the economy has not started to recover, regardless of what official statistics may say, and most of those who say it has improved rate the recovery as weak.

The ratings boost Obama received after the killing of Osama bin Laden has dissipated with his job approval rating back to 47 percent. Forty-nine percent disapprove of his performance.

Fifty-nine percent, a new high, gave Obama negative marks for his handling of the economy, up from 55 percent a month earlier.

Obama's approval rating on the deficit issue hit a new low of 33 percent, down 6 points since April.

Report: Obama Monetary Policy Fueling Pain at the Pump

A new congressional Joint Economic Committee report confirms that the Obama administration’s monetary policies have added approximately 56.5 cents to the price of every gallon of gas you pump.

At the end of 2008, prior to Obama’s coming into office, the price of a barrel of oil stood at $42.10, but that same barrel of oil has increased to $115.84 ̶ a 150 percent increase. The same gallon of gas that cost $1.61 when George W. Bush left office now costs an average of $3.93 cents ̶ up 146 percent.

The Daily Caller reported -
The Obama administration’s monetary policies have added approximately 56.5 cents to the price of every gallon of gas you pump, according to a new congressional Joint Economic Committee report.

Estimates suggest that had the dollar maintained the value it had when Obama came into office, gasoline would cost approximately $3.40 per gallon instead of around $4 per gallon in many parts of the country.
“Analysts and pundits often cite, correctly or incorrectly, the turmoil in the Middle East, a strengthening global economy, or speculation as the causes for the run up in crude oil prices,” the report said. “What is rarely discussed as an important factor in the rise of the dollar price of oil is the role played by the dollar itself.”

The report attributes this increase to the Federal Reserve’s policy of increasing the money supply through the purchasing trillions worth of bank notes, treasury notes and mortgage-backed securities, known as quantitative easing, which it says has fueled inflation.

President Obama publicly defended the Fed’s decision to engage in quantitative easing last fall during the G20 Summit in India in the wake of Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke’s decision to print money to buy back $600 billion worth of government bonds in August 2010.

“It was designed to grow the economy,” the president told Bloomberg.

150 Economists Back US Republicans in Debt Fight

More than 150 economists back U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner's call to match any increase in the debt limit with spending cuts of equal size, according to a letter released by the Republican leader's office Wednesday.

"An increase in the national debt limit that is not accompanied by significant spending cuts and budget reforms to address our government's spending addiction will harm private-sector job creation in America," the letter said.

California Rescue Workers Watch Man Drown Because They Lacked Proper Water Rescue Certification

We have often railed against California's insane litigious and regulatory environment which crushes personal liberty, costs the California economy almost $500 billion a year, and is driving business out of the state in record numbers.  Now it would appear as though that burdensome environment has tragically resulted in the loss of a life.

On Monday, rescue workers in Alameda, California allowed a suicidal man to drown while watching for more than an hour from shore because they didn’t have the necessary water rescue certifications leaving them open to possible lawsuits if they attempted to save him.

The drowning victim, 53-year-old Raymond Zack, was apparently suicidal, according to a report from the scene. He waded out about 150 yards into cold waters off Crown Beach in Alameda and took about an hour to drown himself.
A crowd of about 75 gathered to watch the bizarre scene, which saw police and firemen just standing at shoreline watching helplessly. In fact, because of certifications and laws, rescue workers could not even legally enter the water to retrieve the body after the man had died. The police asked an onlooker to do it for them.

According to reports, City officials reportedly blamed the incident on budget cuts - but the reality is that there were rules and regulations in place that prevented rescue workers from rescuing the individual.  Rules which have apparently now been changed.

WOW: NBC News Calls Palin's Bus Tour 'Illegal' (Video)

If this is the best criticism of Sarah Palin MSNBC can come up with they are in for a tough summer...

via Alex Fitzsimmons, NewsBusters

MSNBC's Martin Bashir on May 31 insisted that Sarah Palin's bus tour amounts to a "breach of a federal law."

Anchoring his eponymous program, Bashir scolded, "In fact, the whole thing could be in breach of a federal law because the United States Flag Code establishes important rules for the use and display of the stars and stripes, the flag of the United States."

Maybe Martin Bashir has never seen a commercial, baseball game or the Olympics, because it's probably fair to say Sarah Palin is not exactly the first person to use the American flag for financial purposes.

Additionally, it's worth noting that the Flag Code is voluntary: "This is a U.S. federal law, but there is no penalty for failure to comply with it and it is not widely enforced."

UPDATE:  A quick google search shows that Mr. Bashir has a lot of making up to do when it comes to calling out political bus tours.  Flashback to 2008... those aren't by chance stripes of the American flag on then Candidate Obama's bus are they?
